Understanding Dyslexia

How is Dyslexia diagnosed in children?

In spite of the fact that Dyslexia is a neuro-developmental disorder that emerges from birth, it doesn’t necessarily imply that the child is not smart or or is far behind his/her peers. A mental health expert can diagnose dyslexia only in children who reach their 10 years of age/4th grade. But, in some cases, parents or caregivers may suspect the existence of dyslexia from a much younger age, as young as infancy. For instance, if the child does not crawl but walks all of a sudden, this could cause suspicions of dyslexia.While Dyslexia is a Neuromental learning disability that occurs from birth, but this disorder does not mean that the child is less intelligent or is not developing correctly. A psychologist can diagnose developmental Dyslexia only in a 10-year-old child (4th grade). In some cases, parents can suspect this disorder earlier. For example, even in infancy, if the child skips crawling and only walks at once may raise suspicions of Dyslexia.
